The Occidental Hotel was built in 1873-1874. Historically it is significant in that it is the oldest commercial structure in the city, the only remaining building of the ?Cowtown? era and the only documented building left from the City?s incorporation in 1870 to 1885. Although the building?s exterior and interior has undergone many changes in the past, its present appearance is the result of successful efforts in the past two decades to return it to its 19th century period. What is unique and so impressive about the Occidental Hotel is that despite the fact that it is 128 years old it still mirrors it?s original appearance both on the exterior and interior yet provides functional and stylish office space and dining enjoyment for many community members as well as visitors. There is no other building in Wichita that can boast the same.
Prime downtown location within walking distance of court house, city building, financial institutions, restaurants, and Century II. Property is located in the NE quadrant of 2nd and Main St. Easy access from US 54 and Hwy 135.
